Flower Color vs Pollen Color

Understand why flower color and pollen color are not always the same, and how to use both carefully for plant identification.

Pollen color is highly variable. Lighting, pollen age, moisture, collection method, cultivar, and local growing conditions can all change how pollen appears. Use this as general visual guidance, not a scientific color standard or guaranteed field match.

Flower Color Is Not Pollen Color

A flower's petals can be a very different color from its pollen. Purple, blue, white, and red flowers may still produce yellow, cream, orange, or darker pollen.

For identification, compare the visible flower, plant type, bloom period, and pollen tone rather than relying on any one color cue.
